ARCHIE DIGEST: SUMMER SCHOOL

May 21, 2017

Hey, everybody!

A quick note on the near future of Archie Digest: A 'Riverdale' Podcast

Since we're a podcast that covers a TV show, it's probably reasonable to assume that we will not be continuing year-'round.

However, all of the people who host this show are unreasonable.

We'll be around, talking about the Riverdale comic book series, other projects that the cast are involved with, breaking news about Riverdale season 2, and more.

We may not be weekly over the summer -- especially in the weeks around Comic Con International: San Diego when Russ, Craig, and Chris are buried in work -- but the plan is to be on at least every two weeks...and we will likely be releasing on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET, like usual, rather than just pushing it out whenever we complete an episode.

Russ will also be taking some time out to finally clean up some of the audio quality and technical issues in some of the early episodes. By the time the show returns in the fall, Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast will be as clean and clear as it can be, without fully re-recording the conversations.

Any questions, feel free to hit us up at archiedigestpodcast@gmail.com, or tweet them at @RiverdaleTV!

Archie Digest Special #4: Kevin’s Guy, Joaquin!

May 18, 2017

There's no new episode of Riverdale this week, but that wont stop the Archie Digest crew from delivering a new podcast!

This week, Craig and Russ are joined by Rob Raco, who plays Joaquin De Santos on the series.

Also, check out the Emerald City Video Podcast, where Russ and his co-hosts will be doing a "summer of Riverdale, pairing movies whose titles inspired Riverdale episodes with classic teen movies all summer long.

Trust us: There's a LOT of good stuff to come, even if we don't have new episodes of Riverdale just now.

Since Russ is footing the bill for hosting and had to buy some new editing software recently so that he can make all this magic happen quickly and quietly, we’ll probably put together some kind of Patreon so that you can sponsor the show in exchange for swag soon enough. For now, though, if you want to contribute anything and everything, you can do so at Paypal.me/emeraldcityvideo. Anyone who contributes $10 and up will get an 8”x10”, framed original photo of Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe, taken by Russ Burlingame during one of our visits to the set of Riverdale.

We've also put together a RedBubble Store at https://www.redbubble.com/people/archiedigest/ where you will be able to get t-shirts, stickers, cell phone cases, and other goods inspired by Riverdale and our show. Currently there's just one design -- #SheriffKiller-- but there's more to come soon!

Archie Digest #13: Chapter 13 - The Sweet Hereafter

May 12, 2017

Whoa. That's a LOT to unpack.

Luckily for us, after this insane finale, we'll have some weeks off to discuss it amongst ourselves and with guests -- because that's right, folks: Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast ain't going anywhere.

Archie Digest #12: Chapter 12 - Anatomy of a Murder

May 5, 2017

Tonight we learned who killed Jason Blossom — but the why will hang over the town for at least another week, along with plenty of new questions raised by a shocking episode of Riverdale.

Chris, Russ, and Craig got together right after the West Coast airing of “Chapter 12: Anatomy of a Murder” to discuss the penultimate episode so big, that it left us wondering what’s left for the season finale.

This is another episode that will probably get an editing tweak when the weekend rolls around and Russ has some time, since we wanted to get it up before tomorrow morning for people eager to talk about the killer. It’s almost 4 a.m. here in New York, so…yeah.

Since Russ is footing the bill for hosting and had to buy some new editing software recently so that he can make all this magic happen quickly and quietly, we’ll probably put together some kind of Patreon so that you can sponsor the show in exchange for swag soon enough. The next one will be SLIGHTLY late, as we have to record it after tomorrow's West Coast feed.

Archie Digest Special #3: Hayleau

April 20, 2017

A new episode!

(Well, not of Riverdale. But of our show.)

A new guest!

(Well, that one's true: We have a conversation with Hayley Law, who plays Valerie Brown on the series.)

You can check out Hayley's music and more at hayleau.com.

Since Russ is footing the bill for hosting and had to buy some new editing software recently so that he can make all this magic happen quickly and quietly, we’ll probably put together some kind of Patreon so that you can sponsor the show in exchange for swag soon enough. Archie Digest #10: Chapter Ten - The Lost Weekend

April 14, 2017

Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica fight for their right to party (or, in Jughead's case, not to party) in the latest episode of Riverdale.

This is a rough-cut version of the episode, which features our whole 90-minute live broadcast from YouTube, as well as an 8-minute commentary from Chris Hayner, who couldn't join us this weekend and instead recorded separately in Scotland.

Without Chris, we had our old friend of the show Mimi1019 from Twitter on with us, so give us a listen, give her a follow, all that good stuff.

And, yes, like a thief in the night we will sneak in and replace the rough cut with a finalized version soon, and also change these show notes a bit to reflect that difference.

Since Russ is footing the bill for hosting and had to buy some new editing software recently so that he can make all this magic happen quickly and quietly, we’ll probably put together some kind of Patreon so that you can sponsor the show in exchange for swag soon enough. Archie Digest #9: Chapter 9 - La Grande Illusion

April 6, 2017

Welcome to Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast! We're a podcast about a story about a town, and we're BACK! Things are NORMAL! We're publishing a fully-edited and polished episode right on time as the episode airs...

...this week.

Next week, we'll be down a man as Chris Hayner heads to Europe for a friend's wedding and to take a well-deserved vacation from us harassing him. But we know he'll miss us, deep down.

It's also a bit of an odd episode because Russ hasn't actually seen this episode yet. "La Grande Illusion" was screened at WonderCon, but Russ was still back in cold, cold Syracuse and didn't get to watch. He knows what happened -- just from talking to the others -- but don't be surprised if his livetweet (@russburlingame) takes on a life of its own.

Archie Digest #8: Chapter 8 - The Outsiders

April 1, 2017

In the first show we've ever broadcast live, Chris, Craig and Russ interact with fans on social media in real time, discussing Chapter Eight: The Outsiders and answering questions and theories from the audience.

Archie Digest Special #2: The Trouble With Grundy/Deidre and Laney Rob a Train

March 23, 2017

This is the second consecutive week with no Riverdale, and our listeners came through in a big way!

While our look at Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again last week didn't draw as many listeners as a regular episode of Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast, it still managed to acquit itself pretty well. And we had our first donor to the site (thanks MimiC...and more on that in a minute)!

This has been a chaotic week, and some of the plans for the show ended up changing on the fly, so don't be too surprised if the MP3 of this episode is cleaned up a little and quietly replaced with a slightly shorter one...but we wanted to make sure to get this out to you great, supportive listeners "in time." So here it is!

UPDATE: If you're downloading this after midnight Pacific Time on March 24, the show has been replaced with the final version. Don't worry; you didn't miss anything except about a half an hour's worth of stammering, coughs, and one anecdote that went nowhere. In exchange, you get a final cut with some incidental clips edited in for your entertainment.

ALSO, just for funsies: Russ tweeted a photo of a copy of the novelization of the 2001 Josie and the Pussycats movie that he got for his birthday, and ended up with birthday wishes and/or likes/retweets from ALL THREE of the 2001 Pussycats (Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson), plus Riverdale's Val, Hayley Law. That was kind of neat.

This episode is part one of a two-part crossover event with the Emerald City Video Podcast, in which Russ and his regular ECV co-host Zach D. Roberts look at Deidre & Laney Rob a Train, a new movie on Netflix starring Ashleigh Murray.

We've also put together a RedBubble Store at https://www.redbubble.com/people/archiedigest/ where you will be able to get t-shirts, stickers, cell phone cases, and other goods inspired by Riverdaleand our show. Currently there's just one design -- #SheriffKiller -- but there's more to come in the next few days.

Lastly, you can check out a new tie-in comic Russ wrote for The Belko Experiment -- in theaters now -- at http://tinyurl.com/belkocomic. The story is set within the narrative of the film, which comes from director Greg McLean and writer James Gunn (Guardians of the GalaxySlither).
